Matilda was Rebecca’s first roast dating back to 1993. A medium roast coffee that was first served in guesthouses and bed and breakfast’s around the Northern Rivers. It was served at Ballina Byron Airport and was the first roast Bec entered into the Fine Food Awards, which she won gold for. Matilda is made from 100% washed processed coffee from our farm. The coffee we grow produces naturally lower levels of caffeine. Caffeine is a natural pesticide for Arabica coffee trees to protect itself in the wild against threats. In Australia, we don’t have those pest & diseases in Australia, and therefore our coffee is roughly 25% lower in caffeine than the rest of the world. Another unique quality is our terrior, or ‘taste of place’. Coffee grown in our region has been identified to have a sweet chocolate body with fruity notes and low acidity.

I was introduced to Matilda, by a friend and I became a devoted fan from my first cup!
Matilda is an outstanding medium roast coffee. Its super smooth, with just a little sweetness. It is my go to morning coffee (actually, its my go to coffee for anytime!). Matilda is a real treat for any coffee lover!
Also, the fact that it’s 100% grown and roasted by these guys, shows just how good Australian Coffee can be.

I came across Zentfeld coffee during the pandemic shutdowns. Our coffee shop at work was closed for the duration. How do you keep a six person surgical team fuelled to continue working? Coffee of course. Several days each week I would make up six double shots of Matilda in six insulated coffee cups and take them in to work where each person then converted the espresso shots into whatever choice they made; hot long black, cold long black, cold latte, americano, flat white etc. No cappuccino as we had not means of texturing the milk. .Everyone loved the smooth reliable flavour of the Matilda. Matilda may be a bit more expensive than supermarket bought coffee beans but I would rather know that my beans came from this year’s crop and was roasted within the previous few weeks. Small price to pay for wonderful coffee.
